Preparation Before Hair Transplant
Preparing before a hair transplant is an important step in increasing the success rate of the procedure, reducing complications, and facilitating quicker recovery. It is recommended to prepare at least 2 weeks before the hair transplant.
For those with chronic conditions, it is recommended to continue taking prescribed medications regularly, such as those for hypertension, diabetes, or cholesterol, to maintain blood pressure levels below 140/90 millimeters of mercury. When blood pressure is within normal range, it minimizes bleeding and bruising, leading to faster recovery.
In the case of using medications such as aspirin, warfarin, and other drugs that affect blood clotting, it is advisable to consult your regular physician to assess the possibility of discontinuing the medication. These medications can thin the blood, potentially leading to graft displacement.
- Avoid all types of vitamins, especially vitamin E, fish oil, and vitamin C, as they may thin the blood and increase the risk of infection.
- Refrain from smoking for at least 3 months, as smoking can cause abnormalities in blood vessels. After grafting, new blood vessels may not adequately nourish the graft, potentially leading to incomplete grafting.
- Exercise as usual.
- Avoid alcohol consumption one day before surgery.
- Massage the scalp to increase its flexibility. A more flexible scalp makes grafting easier, reduces bleeding, and minimizes swelling and bruising.
- Take medications for thinning hair, such as Finasteride or Minoxidil, continuously to strengthen the hair roots and strands.
- Avoid hair dyeing one week before hair transplant, as the chemicals in hair dye may cause scalp irritation, wounds, or allergic reactions.
- Avoid using hair thickening powder or fiber to prepare the hair roots thoroughly with autologous hair cell growth factor or specific hair root nourishment, such as Stemcell or Exosome. These can be injected both before and after hair transplant as options or as the physician’s diagnosis
